The Region 5 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Katie Vandawalker has been appointed as the new principal of Shrevewood Elementary School. Katie brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative school environment.

Since July 2021, Katie has served as the Assistant Principal at Shrevewood Elementary School. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in sustaining a positive school climate by promoting teacher leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and creating opportunities for stakeholder feedback. Katie has provided professional development for grade-level team leads and supported Collaborative Learning Teams (CLTs) to ensure differentiated instruction based on data analysis.

Katie’s innovative approach led to the creation and implementation of the school’s multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework. Her leadership in developing behavior support plans and establishing bi-weekly meetings with new instructional staff has fostered a culture of collaboration and support. Additionally, Katie has been proactive in recruiting and hiring highly qualified staff and has implemented initiatives like a weekly student raffle for a lunch bunch with administrators to build relationships across the school.

Her dedication to student success is evident through her work with the Tier 1 Behavior Wellness team, resulting in decreased discipline referrals and a stronger emphasis on positive behavior. She actively participates in PTA meetings, discussing ways to increase parent and school partnerships, social and emotional learning, and ensuring access to rigorous instruction for all students.

Prior to her role at Shrevewood, Katie was the Assistant Principal at Justice High School, where she supervised and evaluated staff and led the Special Education Task Force, significantly improving student attendance and academic achievement. Katie’s career began as a Special Education Teacher and later as the Special Education Department Chair at Justice High School, where she organized a caseload of 285 students and provided critical support and training to special education staff.

Katie’s exceptional contributions have been recognized at Shrevewood and Justice where she was recognized with the Outstanding Leader award.

Outside of school, Ms. Vandawalker loves starting her quiet mornings with her favorite Peloton instructors.  She enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three children – twin daughters and a son.  As a family, they love exploring the outdoors, attending live music events, watching all things sports, and discovering new culinary delights.

We are confident that under Katie Vandawalker’s leadership, Shrevewood Elementary School will continue to thrive as a nurturing and dynamic learning community. Please join us in welcoming Katie to her new role and supporting her vision for the future of our school.
